Rep. Alex Mooney Wins Endorsement from Competitive Markets Action in Campaign for U.S. Senate
CHARLES TOWN, WV – Today Competitive Markets Action announced its endorsement of U.S. Rep. Alex Mooney, R-Charles Town, in the Republican Primary race for U.S. Senate, against Gov. Jim Justice, a Democrat until 2017. The Senate seat, currently held by U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-Farmington, is one of the last seats in the Southeastern U.S. with a sitting Democrat Senator.
“We are pleased to endorse Alex Mooney in the U.S. Senate race and applaud his support of our efforts to reform USDA’s scandal-ridden Commodity Checkoff Programs and promote competitive markets that benefit independent family farmers,” said Marty Irby, President & CEO at Competitive Markets Action. “The U.S. Senate needs more people like Congressman Mooney and fewer Jim Justice’s if America is going to make it to the 250-year mark and Mooney has proven to us he’ll stand up against U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack – the swampiest of all swamp rats – who’s milked the American family farmer dry.”
Mooney voted this week in support of an Amendment led by Reps. Victoria Spartz, R-IN, and Thomas Massie, R-KY, that would have helped bring accountability to the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture’s Commodity Checkoff Programs that have been under fire for the past decade. These checkoffs continue to be a source of controversy and ridden with scandal after scandal brought to light by Politico, The Daily Caller, and Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that revealed serious conflicts of interest with U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack who left the Obama Administration to work for Dairy Management, Inc., making nearly $1 million per year before returning to lead the USDA in the Biden Administration.
Mooney also maintained a score of 97 in 2022 with the Club for Growth and currently has a score of 100 for the 118th Congress with FreedomWorks.
