U.S. Rep. Andy Ogles Secures Endorsement from Competitive Markets Action

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Today, Competitive Markets Action (CMA) announced their endorsement of Representative Andy Ogles, R-Columbia, in the Tennessee Republican primary for Congress. Ogles has demonstrated outstanding support of agricultural transparency, fair market practices, and unwavering dedication to fostering competition in the marketplace.

The Congressman backed a 2023 amendment to reform the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture’s scandal-ridden commodity checkoff programs and cosponsored the bipartisan Crop Insurance Transparency Act, H.R. 5747. Ogles also co-lead a letter to House Agriculture Committee leaders in opposition to proposed Farm Bill reference price increases that would add to the national debt and further drive inflation.

"Rep. Ogles has proven himself as a stalwart advocate for competitive markets and transparency in agriculture, and we are proud to endorse him," said Marty Irby, president and CEO at Competitive Markets Action. "Ogles’ support for the Crop Insurance Transparency Act and his leadership in opposing proposed reference price increases in the Farm Bill exemplify his dedication to ensuring a level playing field for the American family farmers who keep our country fed."

The USDA’s Commodity Checkoff Programs have long-been compromised by industrial agriculture interests that control the American food production system and put small and mid-sized family farmers out of business. Ogles has been a champion for Tennessee family farmers and has fought for their survival.

The Crop Insurance Transparency Act aims to enhance transparency within the crop insurance market and prevent billionaires and foreign adversaries from receiving subsidies at a time when most farmers under 500 acres do not have access to crop insurance. Ogles' cosponsorship of this crucial legislation underscores his commitment to empowering farmers and promoting fairness in agricultural insurance practices.

Ogles’ letter expressing strong opposition to increasing reference prices in the upcoming Farm Bill underscores his commitment to decreasing the national debt and tampering down inflation that continues to drive up food costs for American families. This initiative is pivotal to reducing inflation in land and inputs costs, thereby protecting the interests of both producers and consumers alike.

Competitive Markets Action encourages voters and stakeholders across Tennessee’s fifth congressional district to support Ogles in the upcoming Republican primary election, recognizing his pivotal role in advancing policies that promote fairness and accountability in agriculture.
